Our current knowledge suggests that there is not a single technique that works for everything.
Elite players don’t seem to play “everything”, they play the things that work well with their mechanics.
Molly Tuttle has awesome double - escape technique that allows her to blaze through one-note-per-string arpeggios, but you probably won’t see her cover Zakk Wylde solos. Vice versa, I don’t think Zakk would be able to play Molly Tuttle songs 
Every picking “problem” is more or less different and can lead you to more or less different solutions
