Interesting, could you elaborate on this a little? What instance would you use some rotation?
Definitely if there are skips, I think it helps a lot. Also, I think any time the tempo gets above 150bpm or so, but only if you really value being super accurate (which is debatable if we really need). I think even most of the best players (Steve Morse, Andy Wood) swipe a lot in this range and it’s because they flatten out too much. Tracking can have implications too. If you’re ok constantly tracking (Martin Miller, Keith Whalen) then you can get by with less or no rotation on adjacent string as long as your motion is curved enough. I still think the skips would require some rotation though.
