This is not necessarily the case. Like 99% of Yngwie (Volcano) and EJ (Cascade) picking mechanics are Downward Pick Slant in BOTH directions, ascending and descending.
That doesn’t mean these are the only mechanics that work, but it’s clearly not a requirement to change pick slant with a direction change on even-numbered note groups.
