Long story short; stick with the Apple ecosystem. The main thing I’ve experienced first-hand over decades is that while the hardware is expensive the software(s) are much cheaper in the long run.
As with musical gear, don’t compromise beyond a certain point.
Expect your machine to last you 5 years with good care, anything above that will be a risk as I found out. Make your decisions around that fact. As others have pointed out get the extended apple care unless you have a louis rossman type apple villain around.
