Your favourite "non-shred" guitar solos

I like the 3 guitar solos in Hocus Pocus by Focus

Especially the second one, tear your face off.

The guitar solo In Heart’s Magic Man:

The guitar solo at the end of disco hit Baby come back

Jimmy Page’s guitar solo in No Quarter (live)

Oh no the radio. Owsley …live (unexpected guitar solo at the end)

(he killed himself some years ago)

Randomly thought of this one today. Simple, yet very dramatic…

Wilton and DeGarmo are my absolute favorite metal guitar duo ever. Wilton nailed it on that one. His solo on Empire is one of my favorites.

Hetfield’s solo in Nothing Else Matters. A piece of genius that tricked everybody into thinking Kirk finally learned how to solo .

I don’t know why Kirk gets such a hard time; he has actually come up with some pretty excellent stuff over the course of his career. His Fade To Black and Sanitarium solos definitely stand out, Enter Sandman got a listen or two, and how about Shortest Straw for a facemelter? I am hardly a Hammett fanboy but I think he’s pretty good, perfect fit for Metallica music. No, he’s not Steve Vai or Yngwie Malmsteen but I think that he really did a lot for guitar…

The unforgiven has a nice solo. I like that bend he does.

Jimmy Page’s Heartbreaker solo Live from the Paris Theater 1971

I always thought the Pixies had great lead guitar parts. Never anything even remotely virtuosic.

Speaking of 80s alt rock post punk stuff, not really a solo per se but the lead part in this is awesome. Especially the counterpoint with the bass.

Always loved the bare simplicity of the Edge’s solos.

Tony Iommi’s little Jazzy blues solo in Planet Caravan:

Jeff Healy See the Light:

Jimi Hendrix - Machine Gun

Not really a guitar solo - more like solo guitar, though there are a few fingerstyle runs, cool how he does it without dropping any ashes

Guitar at the end of Abacab

This is Django Rheindhart playing Echoes of Spain. Probably his least virtuosic piece. There are no fast runs or parts. I think he was just improvising live. But i like what finally happens at 2:39 after having heard what came before.

Jimmy Page playing Chopin. Very sparse use of notes but pretty emotional I think.
