About using wrist + forearm blend

When doing the wrist and forearm blend is it wrist flexion and extension what is used or deviation?

Both! It’s probably something like a 2 o’clock motion. You can learn more about blends here, in the “wrist mechanics” section, where we talk about all the clock face stuff. We tried to make this as accessible as possible, with shots of different players doing all these motions, but it’s still a “for extra reading” topic for those who are really interested in what’s going on under the hood:

In terms of actually doing these motions, you’re going to consciously control by saying, aha, I’m going to use exactly this blend of X and Y, plus Z percent forearm motion. Instead, you just need to get into the form and the try to move the pick in the direction you want it to go. Once you have the ulnar / pinky anchor point, the wrist and arm will move mostly automatically in whatever way is best. Details on that in our overview of forearm motions, here:
