Al Di Meola crosspicking?

I got a nylon string for Christmas, so I’ve been going back through all of my old Di Meola music. On Passion Grace and Fire, the main melody that opens the song, is he cross picking this? It’s similar to Mediterranean Sundance, which I believe he just plays D D U, but there are string skips here that he mutes later in the song.

On the Rick Beato interview he was sneaking in some chicken picking on some of the arps.

Even with the very low quality, you can basically see what he does here:

The string skips he alternates, and uses outside picking. In general, I think he uses downstrokes when ascending, upstrokes when descending, and only changes direction where necessary (so, if he picked strings B G D B G D, he’d go U U D U U D).
