Alt picking+Eco picking=Hybrid picking?

Greetings from ohio. My name is Michael. Friends call me Monty. I passionately Love guitar. the instrument and the sound it makes is just beautiful. And to play it effortlessly and fluidly looks even more beautiful. eager to learn more and hopefully reach that point

[ TG Edit: this was originally included in the thread title. I’m adding it to the post body.]

Is there a possible exercise or pattern u can use to practice both picking categories at the same time with timing (metronome of sorts)?

Lots available in the Masters in Mechanics library and Cracking the Code to work from. Hybrid picking generally involves bringing right hand fingers into play, so the equation isn’t quite as you have it?

Picking with the addition of fingers, pick and fingers, is traditionally considered hybrid picking. You may be interested in topics that cover “SWYBRYD” (a term coined by Marshall Harrison) that puts everything together.

You can switch from any picking style on the fly, I do a lot of ascending/descending fours.

These can be picked in any style and once you’re used to one style try another, and then try switching it around, you can create a blend of different picking with practice and it will help you see what you personally find easiest. I highly recommend you stick to whatever one is easiest for you. We are all built different and what feels best initially will likely be the style you can bring to the highest level. Don’t fight your body to play like someone else, it’s guaranteed to set you back years overcoming nature

absolutely that is what I meant. I apologize for the confusion. Although I have played for a little while 10 or more years definitely not the greatest and definitely not up to date on most terminology. Yeah I’ll take a look at the SWYBRID picking thread. as coincidental as it feels, I believe that from the moment I began playing up to now I may have already been doing this. Because it felt natural to go up and down but to switch strings it felt natural to go in the same direction. Thanks again!

I believe that economy picking is what seems to be what’s best for my speed. It’s always been natural to come. But the reason why I’m trying to switch over to do a little alternate picking is my economy picking is not very timed. I mean if it is it’s mostly 16th and 16th triplets. But I would love to be able to pick slower riffs and passages and songs Etc In perfect time. My economy picking lacks this so much LOL. Or let me rephrase that, it doesn’t lack it it’s just harder to come by for me to do it that way. I see the benefits of alternate picking as I’ve already tried a few riffs I have learned years ago economy Style, only to see that the timing I have is much better with the alternate picking. thanks for the info and advice though. Definitely looking for exercises riffs or songs to be able to work both at the same time
