Hey!
I was wondering how I build alternate picking speed without tension.
I was a member about 8 months ago and learned a lot of helpful things. I can now change strings without thinking about it really much (I believe that is called 2wps) for example. Only thing I’ve been running into now is that I get a lot of tension (or fatigue) when playing fast.
I noticed when I was a member 8 months ago that forarm motion + wrist motion was the fastest way to alternate pick for me without tension. Only thing is now that when alternate picking this way and changing strings is almost impossible to do (for me). Because of this I started to focus on wrist motion to make the string transitions easier.
When using wrist motion and doing speed drills, tension comes in my wrist. I think that this comes because it’s ’too Fast’ for my wrist. I also feel a bit of tension in the front of my shoulder now that I’m thinking of it.
My question is:
How can I build wrist speed without creating tension anywhere? Or is there a way to combine forarm+wrist motion, and also use 2wps?
Another thing that I was wondering about:
When trying to minimize my hand movement when picking, it creates more tension, or it makes my accuracy worse.
I feel like I’m forgetting something haha
Thanks in advance!
Edit: I just noticed that when speeding things up my elbow almost takes over all the way. But in some, just some days, it just clicks and my elbow does almost nothing and my wrist does all the work (without tension!) when I try to replicate this feeling the days after it still kind of works, but it gets less every day (after the day that it clicked for me) until the feeling is gone again and my elbow takes over again.
This is one of the things that I forgot haha ^
