I have seen a number of players do this with great dexterity and speed, but is it technically string hopping and is there a more efficient way of doing it (aside from sweeping)?

My over-simplified way of breaking down double-escaped picking.
- Hopping (‘V’ shape). One mechanic is used in 2 directions to escape the strings.
- X-Picking (‘U’ shape). One mechanic typically blends to another mechanic to escape the strings.
- X-Picking(‘Arc’ Shape). Multiple mechanics are used concurrently, and are roughly at mid-stroke at the time of contact with the string(like a golf-swing).
It’s obviously more complicated than this… and there are lotsa in-betweens. I’m just trying to categorize things a bit.

So alternate picking arpeggios is a form of crosspicking?
