Antigravity confusion: swiping, DBX vs two way pickslanting?

So after watching the swiping and two way pickslanting videos on the Antigravity seminar I’m a bit confused, the reason is that essentially after watching the Primer I understand that Downward pickslanting and upward pickslanting aren’t really the ways in which players are escaping the string but it is actually escape motion, be it DSX, USX or DBX. So this creates 2 questions for me.

The first one is in swiping, Troy describes 3 parts necessary for executing swiping, left hand muting with the index finger, upward pickslanting and actually playing the fundamental note that is intended to be played. So to my understanding, for this technique to work, it is actually necessary to use an upward pickslant as opposed to an escaped motion. So if we were using DBX form we need to switch to a DSX only form which should in theory also create an upward slant of the pick, this if we are intending to do descending swiping coming of an upstroke, like MAB does. Is that correct here?

And my second question, Troy talks about doing two way pickslanting doing a down up rotate motion, to my understanding now, after watching the primer, in reality what we really need if we want to escape the strings both ways, is a DBX motion as opposed to trying to rotate and escape. Is that correct in this case?

I’m looking forward to your replies! Thank you for your attention.

Hey there!

Two quick answers to this:

  1. you are right that the Primer has more updated knowledge / terminology compared to the Antigravity seminar (which was filmed in 2014-15 IIRC). So, when you watch the Antigravity seminar (which still has a lot of great stuff in it), you have to keep in mind that the concepts in the primer represent the more up-to-date version of our instruction.

  2. The quickest possible way for you to get results is to create a technique critique so that we can take a lot at what your current motions look like. Based on that, we’ll be able to figure out the most productive next steps for your specific case.

  3. About swiping, I’d just recommend to keep your left hand muting tight and try to play whatever line you want to play. Then, evaluate your results based exclusively on sound and feel, do not worry too much at what’s happening under the hood

Thank you very much for the reply, I have already started a TC and I might upload more videos to get even more feedback thank you very much.
