I dug these guys back in high school ever since I heard “Stars” on the radio one night, and while they had kind of fallen out of rotation for a while there You’d Prefer an Astronaut and Downward is Heavenward were in heavy rotation for me in my adolescence and 20s.
So, in the single most improbable bit of good news to come out of 2020, Hum broke a nearly 23-year hiatus by unexpectedly releasing a new album at the end of June. And in the second most improbable bit of good news to come out of this year, it’s actually really, legitimately good. Kind of dumbfoundingly so.
This definitely won’t be everone’s cup of tea, but if sort of ethereal-yet-heavy unabashedly geeky riff-based hard rock sounds like your sort of thing, this album rules.
