Arpeggios From Hell

Can anyone figure out how Yngwie is picking this? I’m not sure that I can figure out a way that makes total sense strictly adhering to DWPS. Tina S plays it smoothly but it looks like I can see her two way slanting very clearly. Specifically the first line of the song. It has back and forth like the volcano pattern, but it is only a singular note according to all of the music that I can find.

Wow haven’t watched Tina S in ages. I think I haven’t watched her since I discovered the CtC stuff.

Now that I look differently at all guitarists, I must say that her playing is one of the most obvious, cleanest and shall I say very systematic? applications of two way pick slating! Really impressive.

I will go back and re-watch some of her videos with my newly acquired CtC analytical skills!

I don’t remember which one, but there’s a youtube video of Troy’s where Tina S gets discussed in the comments, and some folks present compelling arguments that at least some of Tina’s videos are mimed at low speed, and then sped up.

Hi,

Thanks for the answer!

any evidence? Honestly, I don’t think it’s fake. I believe that if you are not good at the guitar, people will be able to tell, regardless of the speed you are playing at. Just my opinion of course.

It was on one of the two Lisa X videos. I checked out the links provided at the time and there is definitely some funny business going on with the video editing. I also asked around and someone sent me another link where there’s a high note sounding while her hand was somewhere else on the neck entirely. The consensus from those I spoke to was that the videos are comped from multiple takes with slight speeding up, and that this is all masterminded by her handlers.

This is suppprted by the fact that the movements look real. It’s hard to fake movements you are most likely not even aware you are making. She likely has some good amount of playing ability and would probably be respected even without the editing. It’s just not clear to what extent given the presentation.

Yeah, that’s the thing: there are videos of her playing guitar from a very young age, and it’s clear that she “knows how to play”, regardless of whether there are any shenanigans going on with her youtube performances.

I think a big issue here is what it does to a kid to be told from a very early age that you’re not good enough without some degree of photoshopping, because we need to get famous on the intertubes. That’s gotta do a number on your brain. I suppose it’s possible she doesn’t know what is happening edit-wise, or doesn’t know to what extent. Either way it’s a little messed up.

By contrast I didn’t get “stage parent” weirdness vibes from Lisa’s parents at all. Her dad is a super nice guy who seems like the kind of person who would be on here - dude of a certain age who likes rock guitar. There was no indication that they wanted us to present or not present any particular aspect of her playing, including the “Rhode Island Shred” hand closeups they filmed on their own with the magnet we sent them. They just sent over the files.

Obviously we can’t know what effect any of this has on developing psyche and there was this rather depressing piece in the Atlantic recently. I can just be thankful there was no SnapVine or InstaChat available when I was busy being an idiot teenager back in the day.
