Beginner - Critique Request

Hi all,

I’m a beginner on the guitar (first picked it up around 5 months ago) and stumbled across Troy’s work so decided to give a shot and learn something new.

Based on my motion tests, I’m able to keep in time and go fastest with the elbow motion. This is new to me as I’ve learned to play using my wrists (side to side deviation) but wanted to give it a shot. Here’s my tremolo picking, where I notice I don’t quite have an escape on the upstroke (going trapped to trapped).

Any advice would be much appreciated! I also can do a blend of elbow and wrist at a similar speed that I can film if that’d be helpful.

Thanks all

Looks like you are ready for Synchronicity. You may want to review Vinnie Moore and elbow sections in Pickslanting Primer

Thanks! Didn’t realise I was ready for it, but if you say so I will give that a shot

If your motion is fast, easy, and loud then it’s time for hand sync! Synchronicity’s core concepts will be the place to start. After/during you will want to review these sections of Primer: elbow mechanics, downstroke escape motion (DSX), common DSX picking strategies, and Vinnie Moore’s mechanics.

As a Masters-in-Mechanics member, you can submit a technique critique for CtC staff review if you are stuck or unsure on anything
