Can cross picking be learnt at a later stage?

Hi,

First, a big thanks to Troy , Brendan and Adam for all the amazing work they’ve done.

I’m a self taught guitar player and my picking is a weird mix of alternate and economy picking.

I listened to the acoustic version of “Fall to pieces” by Slash and Myles Kennedy. Loved the opening riff, but due to my weird picking technique mentioned earlier, I found it difficult to crack.

Cut to a few months later, saw the Carl Miner video, and I understood where I was going wrong!! I was not deploying strict alternate picking. I tried the song with strict alternate picking and it seems to be easier now.

I am now trying to learn it. It’s been 2 weeks, and I’m practicing about 30 minutes every day, just focusing on strict alternate picking with a semi circular motion - cross picking - but it’s still not settling in…I have to remind myself to do it :frowning:

Is anyone facing same issue here? Is it even possible to learn it after a certain age?

Note:-
For me, strict alternate picking with semi circular pick motion = cross picking. Am I mixing up stuff?

I have a day job and play guitar just for hobby so can’t spend much time practicing. Hence 30 minutes.

Kindly let me know.

I believe Troy learned it quite recently, so the answer to your title is hopefully yes, provided you understand how to implement the correct movements.

The latest crosspicking workshop by Troy & team was great, I’d definitely recommend it!

Thanks for taking time to reply.
Which workshop are you talking about? A live session that I can access? Please let me know.

Yeah it was a live broadcast for MIM subscribers: “crosspicking with the wrist”.
As you are a member you should be able to find it somewhere on your cracking the code user portal!
