Chord placement in Guitar Pro 8 (Help!)

TLDR: I’m trying to place chords on the sheet independently of track events (notes, pauses).

In Guitar Pro 8 it looks like I can only add a chord name above a specific event in the track, like a note or a pause.

Is there a way to have the chord names appear in independent locations compared to the notes and pauses?

Example: the tab or score only displays a whole note (4 beats) starting on beat 1 of a 4/4 bar. However, the harmony (chords) is Am for the first 2 beats and then Gmaj for the last 2 beats. Is there a way to do that?

Thank you all!

The only way I know how is to make that semibreve a minim, and tie it to another minim where your next chord will be placed.

Thank you! I ended up emailing Arobas support as well and they basically confirmed that there needs to be an event on the track corresponding to the chord (note or pause).

Good news is they also said this:

We understand why this would be useful, and we’ve added your suggestion to our wishlist.

So your solution (two tied notes instead of one longer note) is a possibility. Another idea I’m looking at is to introduce a second ‘hidden’ voice on the track which could just be 8th note rests all over the place. This might allow independent chord placement from the events of the main melody.
Will try and report back
