Chunking, combining different patterns

I use Dwps and my picking is improving with practice. I can play even patterns pretty fast, but playing the same pattern across the neck feels kinda robotic and non musical.
My next strategy is to combine different pattern when playing fast. So you take 3 different patterns: for example
pattern A - 6 notes
pattern B - 4 notes
pattern C - 2 notes

and you mix them while continuously playing 16th notes or triplets.

I find this to be challenging, because if i mess up, the picking hand gets confused and crashes, especially when playing triplets and the accents fall on different parts of the triplet.

I think practice is the only answer to this. Has anyone practicing like this?

Hey Paul that sounds like a pretty good practice routine. I’ve been working on about 5 different approaches and patterns with crosspicking arpeggios and economy picking and that is all I’m working on. I can combine those with the single string stuff and create some longer lines that I wouldn’t be able to do in the past. Keep it up brother and you will see those combos really coming into action!
