For those not in the know, Archspire are one of the newer technical death metal bands that have been making waves lately and all of their members are music school grads who teach when they’re not on the road. Dean Lamb in particular has a lot of content out there. He has a recent series where he’ll pick a really tough passage from a song that he’s always meant to work on. These are long-form videos done basically in a single take and he’ll rip through a couple warm-up excercises and basically walk you through his learning process live, warts and all.
Those of you who are curious about learning and how to approach tough songs will likely find this interesting. I know the Archspire guys are aware of Troy Grady’s work but not sure how much they follow it. In any case, here’s Dean Attemping To Learn Paul Gilbert:
