Determining My Escape Stroke With Certainty

Hey everyone! Just wanted to have you guys help me with my motions. I’m a completely idiosyncratic learner, so I learn by doing, and while I love CtC, and suspected my primary motion to be DSX, I also found out if I focus my picking like Miles Baker does in that Miles Baker interview, focusing on my thumb and index finger of my picking hand moving, I get a USX motion, or feels that way.

Some insight will help!

Video for reference. I don’t have the Magnet as of yet, so we had to make do with open strings.

Any help would be appreciated!

:metal: :slightly_smiling_face:

Downstroke escape, reverse dart motion.

You’re definitely a RDT DSX player as your primary motion. When you do the thumb thing it looks like you flip between DSX and USX a bit, but that doesn’t seem that useful. If you want to change to USX just use downward slanting a bit more (but keep the motion the same)

It could be something I just found out, and it’s unrefined. I’m trying different things to get USX motions as a helper motion.

Once I saw that as a possibility, and it feels easier than rotating my whole hand, for some reason.

Just something I’m experimenting with.

Looks like my hunch got confirmed by everyone!

Thanks!

I am a new player so not much knowledge but I am an engineer as well and a trainer in engineering (non music). when trying to learn UPX. I made picture of Troy Grady positions for UPX.

Its interesting and just could be angle I am seeing but your wrist looks supinated with forearm but I guess does not show enough to be clear. The motion of your picking angle is what I saw in reverse dart as mentioned: Chapter 1 – What Is Reverse Dart Thrower Motion? – Cracking the Code

note your change that motion towards end of the video though rewatch sometime after 1.30 mins it looks like it changes a bit… hhmm maybe just from movement and talking.

Your hand position though seems to be A and B positioning User Video Player Page – Cracking the Code

Yet as everyone noted that angle from the reverse dart throwing really shows escape downward. Fascinating to me because you look to have supination which normally forces and upward escape from my ignorant and limited amount of knowledge.

I use the supination to help push towards a UPX and that is what I am trying to learn right now. Anyway interesting stuff!
