Does anyone have any recommendations for digital audio interfaces? I’m looking at getting one and jumping into the world of amp sims/modellers (albeit open source).
How many inputs and how many outputs?
Love MOTU so far, M2 would be smallest I believe.

The options I could literally walk into my local general goods store and pick up are Universal - UA Volt 1, Volt 2, and Volt 476.
Unfamiliar with the Volts beyond a quick google search I just did, but they’re probably fine - even basic gear these days is pretty good. For an extra $50 I’d get the 2 over the 1, you may plan on mostly just doing DI into a VST amp, but if you get into recording beyond that I suspect there will quickly come a time when you’ll want that second mic input.
I have the volt 4. It’s good, maybe a little pricey, but to be honest most of the interfaces at this price point are fine. I’ve used focusrite, maudio and various other ones over the years. You won’t find much difference between them.
Just depends how many inputs and outputs you need really.

I have a UA Apollo Twin (1st generation). It is still going strong 12 years later. I replace the power supply once, but the interface is as good as ever.

I have been using a Presonus Quantum for quite a bit. Nothing super fancy, also not terrible. I may jump on to a UA of some sort next year as an upgrade!

On a tight budget, Behringer UMC204HD seems tough to beat. If the specs and features of that don’t meet your needs, for the ballpark of twice the money, the Audient ID4 and Solid State Logic SSL2 have a lot to offer. I wouldn’t spend above those three options unless I was a pro with a specific reason, but there are plenty of even more expensive options (still within the desktop form factor, Universal Audio Apollo series is well-speced and very popular).
