Downward rest strokes

Hi all, I posted previously here First magnet footage

And finally got around to recording some more with a better set up.

I’m really working towards having a flexible escape angle with both up and down rest strokes, I naturally have an upward rest stroke (and thus downward escape) but I want to feel the same level of comfort with my downward rest strokes as I’ve noticed harder swinging guitarists often employ that, benson (with the additional back slant weirdness) but def joe pass.

I struggle with this motion a lot though, it’s coming along but I haven’t quite cracked it.

In addition I’ve been playing with a more “circle pick” grip that actually seems to be helping with my articulations… I have demonstrated a few of these in the video, feedback is appreciated!

The 1234 1234 1234 Usx exercise is how you get usx going. I know that from personal experience.

If you get an exercise that is easy or at least you can play over n over without much thought, it will bleed into your playing and eventually take over it, if you do it to much.

Whatever you practice most is what will come out when someone asks you to play for them.
