Anybody else seeing some success will elbow motion? Ive been working cross picking, sweeps (slightly) and i’ve been chugging today a lot exploring different movements with the elbow. I feel like I had a problem with over extending the joints in my wrist to reach often a higher string and sometimes a lower one. Im focusing on using my elbow instead and controlling it and i think it’s fixing a lot of errors in different aspects of my playing. Anybody else see this?
If I understand you right you mean elbow movement for string tracking, not as a primary motion, right?
Both. Sorry im new to a lot of these terms. But elbow movement for the string tracking thing has been helping but also elbow movement for heavier alternate picking (dave mustaine megadeth).
But the reason i ask is just because (and this is probably in the primer somewhere). But working on elbow movement for string tracking could solve some of my issues but im not sure.
Using the elbow can work for both. It’s pretty helpful for string tracking and some players use it well as a primary picking motion (e.g., Vinnie Moore). But I think most people tend to get better, more controlled, results using their wrist as the primary picking motion and the elbow for string tracking.
But you’ll never know unless you try it and see if it works for you, so go for it.
