Being a beginner, I’m still struggling to hit correct strings with adequate picking depth, and when I see this girl, fast-picking shamisen strings with that huge thing, it just blows my mind

It’s all downward pickslanting. I’d love a shamisen. Problem is I’m too white to look cool playing it lol.
I have a suspicion Marty Friedman was acually inspired by the shamisen picking over what he’s said about it in past.
With downward pick slanting you can be a lot looser over most picking techniques. And this style has improved my picking more than any. Zakk wylde is very similar to this. Skirt included.
