Thanks. I’ll keep that in mind. My left hand really frustrates me. I used to think it’s my right hand that needs work but then I started separating each hand when practicing and found that my left hand keeps getting out of sync. Example: Glass prison arpeggios. At 150 bpm my right hand feels smooth at this point but the left hand feels jumpy and I have a mild OCD about fingers landing on exactly the right spots. You could say I always second guess my left hand fingerings. Looking back I feel I didn’t train my left hand nearly enough to be at par with the right hand. I started out pretty late playing guitar, and perhaps practiced a bit too much of the Paul Gilbert lick.
Hey all, merged the new thread with the old one on the same topic, so that the discussion on the topic will be less fragmented & more easily searchable for future reference!
I’ll add may little bit: I usually go 1-2-4 in the lower register, but past a certain point 1-3-4 becomes more comfortable.
I alter fingerings depending on where on the neck I am or if I am sitting down or standing up. Typically I would use Index, middle, pinky between frets 1-10 and Index, ring, pinky higher up. It really depends on what I am playing and how comfortably it feels.
