Leon Todd talks about “spotting” notes on the neck, a weightlifting metaphor. (In my teaching I often refer to visual “thumbtacks” relating to whatever I’m playing. The thumbtack doesn’t have to represent a note that is actually played, and often isn’t. Similar concept.)
If you wish to get started with FordScales II, “spot” an A note on the lowest string. Play A_BC_D
and then spot E on the next string, and play _EF_G_
. The underscores represent the “black keys” as on a piano. Repeat three times to cover all three octaves of A minor.
But it’s that simple, A, B, C, D, alternating with E, F, G and one is playing within the FordScales II Chromatic pattern.
