Fretting Hand - Threes Pattern Descending

Wondering what people do with their index finger for a descending threes or Yngwie lick. Anchored for each string or lifting off?

For Yngwie 6’s, you can leave it down. Still, it can’t press too hard or you’ll get issues when you shift.

For scalar stuff, it should follow Tom’s EDC principles so long as the phrase allows it. If it’s truly just a descending scale, 3 nps, each finger should empty tension slightly before the next note gets played. This way you’ll always have maximum time to prepare for the next note/string. Leaving the index planted here can make you feel like you have to “rush” to get to the next string.

What do you mean by this? C B A B A G A G F etc? On a single string or staying in position across strings?
