Midway through another Gambale project. I’ve always liked the phrases in his book “Improvisation Made Easier”, although I don’t think it’s actually a very good explanation of Gambale’s principles of improv over chord changes.
It’s quite valuable as a library of cool phrases to use over modal progressions, and especially as a guide to his picking technique and left hand patterns.
This should provide a ton of really useful picking exercises. He uses every possible combination of DSX/USX, double rotation, alternate picking, sweeping in both directions.
I should note that I’ve committed some sacrilege by “optimizing” some of the pick strokes to allow for more sweeping where possible, and to correct some obvious errors - or maybe things only Gambale can do at tempo
