George Benson lick pickslanting

Hey guys found this George Benson lick, was having trouble with it. Was wondering how you guys would approach it with pickslanting?

---------------------------------7-----------------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------7---------7-------------------------------------------------------------
----------7–8--9–10-------------------9/10—9p7--------------------------------------------
-----9-----------------------------------------------------9—7----9-----------------------------

I’m no authority on Benson but from what I gather from reading posts around here, he’s a USX (downward pick slanting) guy.

That lick, as written, poses some challenges for that escape strategy. However, if you re-finger the 7th fret B natural on the high E string and S-T-R-E-T-C-H it over to the 12th fret on the B string, it works out really nicely regarding string changes. All the strings changes are following upstrokes, which is idiomatic of the approach I think he has.

I’d never say I’m an expert on anything but from what I know of George Benson.

He can play this here guitar and he won’t quit until he’s a star, on Broadway.
