Gilbert sixes feels weird

Hey something isn’t really feeling right or synchronized with me doing the gilbert sixes pattern. Any ideas?

I feel weird gaps inbetween switching strings here, it looks like i am string hopping or something? Do you notice my pick goes past the last note but then like jumps upward almost on top of the escape angle?

just gonna bump this once

Any way you can slow that down? My eye for this stuff isn’t especially great, but at a high level nothing looks obviously wrong.

are you able to select lower speed on the youtube short to 0.25x? or do you mean even slower

I always forget about that.

Looks pretty good, for the most part? The only thing jumping out at me is you do seem to be visually “lowering” the pick a little after your upward escaped string changes, particularly on the treble strings, which technically speaking shouldn’t be necessary because your subsequent upstroke should pull the pick right back down on is own. I suspect part of this is that your picking motion really has a pretty modest escape, so this may be in part a way to compensate for that.

But, there are members here with a MUCH better eye for this stuff than me, and I’d be curious to see what a more expert opinion than mine has to say.

You might be digging into the strings a little too much. Really…you want the right amount of attack to be able to make a full sound…but nothing more than that. I’m still working on it myself. You just want the very tip of the pick touching the string. It should almost float over the top. Check out your fretting hand too, as it’s real easy to make mistakes there. I still do.
