Going beyond alternate picking

Alternate-picking has been most guitarists’ white-whale. You guys have done a great job of unlocking a lot of mystery around it. But I’m curious about where you plan to go next? Sweep-picking could be an interesting next phase. It’s an entirely different beast with its own challenges and opportunities. I’ve also really been digging guys like Tom Quayle and I’m curious what would happen if you applied the same analytical skills to that style of playing as you have to alternate-picking.

Thanks!

Hey Alex, thanks for the suggestions here! Good ideas and definitely on our radar. In addition to further guitar styles / techniques we’re also interested in looking more closely at other areas with musical focus e.g. harmony and improvisation; topics around learning, pedagogy, and practice; and other areas like musical health and injury. That’s very broad strokes of course but there are for sure a lot of ways we could expand the scope of our brand of investigation and learning material.

We keep a couple lists in a spreadsheet, one with names of guitarists we’ve gotten suggestions to check out (I think over 200 names on it now!) and another with ideas for more general topics to consider looking into further. From these the exact question of “what’s next” is always evolving, both w/r/t to the topics we cover and how we present them - but we’re always thinking about this and always appreciate hearing what people are interested in seeing more of!
