Good instrument hellps a lot

Hello everyone.
I noteced that if you have a good guitar well regulated it can hellp to improve your tecniques much more evoiding the stress.
If the strings are too far from the fratboard it can cause stress on your fingers. Took me some time to regulat my guitar on my way, but once I got it I starting playing faster and confortable.

Welcome to the forum!

You are right, taking care of your instrument seems like a no-brainer but i for one am guilty of neglecting that aspect of musicianship. I play strings until they are rusty wires and only once had a neck re-adjusted. Now the neck on my favourite guitar is unevenly curved which causes the strings behind the 12th one to produce those clattering notes.

Sucks because it is an Ibanez Xyphos and they dont produce those anymore

So yes, listen to this man.

Yes, rusted strings can damage your guitar’s fretboard. I normally clean the strings every time I stop playing. It is cheaper to change the strings than change the frets.

High level playing is using very subtle and light movements. The guitar needs to be set up to respond to a soft touch, I can’t do big stretches on a bad guitar, play fluidly or play for an extended time. I hope guitar will move onto better materials one day.

It is important to note that a “good guitar“ does not mean expensive. I have a $50 Squier I bought from Goodwill.

I use it as my beater. Something I can drag around the house and not worry too much about.

Once I had my very good friend, who is also a professional guitar tech set it up. It became a no apologies instrument.

You do not have to spend a lot of money to get a good guitar.
