Yeah, this. You might be better served by looking for two-string USX runs - maybe take the Yngwie 6s pattern or some variation thereof, and just go back and forth between two strings? I’ve tended to try this pattern with either major or aeolean/regular minor scales, just because I tend to play that kind of stuff a lot more than the harmonic minor territory Yngwie writes in.
I hope to. But at this point the conventional wisdom seems to be for me to get synced up on one string first. (Although I’m so-far finding one-string runs to be scarcer than I would have assumed. Even the bundles here on CTC are pretty much all multi-string.)

I usually reverse it for ascending scales, but it sounds good either way.

Ah, gotcha. In that case, I wouldn’t think of it as ‘single-escape’ since if you’re staying on a single string, yu really don’t need to think about an escape, and then just find ANY series of notes on a single string that you can loop. Any of the “chunks” that get presented in some of those multi-string licks are great - the Yngwie 6s pattern, for example, can be played up and down a single string and is a good way to build coordination. Likewise with the Gilbert 6s a la Technical Difficulties - play that three note motif as a single string lick and just loop it, ascending and descending. Or make up your own patterns, anything you think sounds cool that you could use musically.
