Greetings from Maine!

Hello all!

I’m a full-time guitar teacher/guitarist living in Portland, Maine. Been playing since the mid-80’s and teaching since the early 90’s both privately and at U-Maine. I’m a big fan of what Troy and Co. have done with CTC, and I’ve been a MIM subscriber since the very beginning.

Looking forward to interacting with everyone in the forum!

Hey Scott, welcome to the forum! Great to have you here.

We’ve got a good number of teachers on here, which is awesome. We made a category, #teachers-lounge, intended as a place for any discussions of learning, pedagogy, and related topics. Another good one we have it #technique-critique , where people can post videos of their playing, along with questions, and get feedback and advice from the community.

Please let us know if you have any questions or we can help with anything. See you around the forum

Nice! Glad to be here!

Welcome. I was born and raised in Maine. I grew up in Bangor area took lessons from Bill Pierce at Northern kingdom music around 1990 and went to UMA for a few years got my Jazz Theory chops together then moved to Flo-rida cause I couldn’t take the weather any longer. Glad to have another Mainiac on board.

Hey Jud - that’s cool! I’ve known Bill for years. Great player and super cool guy. When were you at UMA? I wonder if we might’ve crossed paths at some point?

Scott

I was there from fall 93 to say late 96. Took private lessons from Gary Clancy, Bob Thompson, Gary Witner and Tony Gabory while I was enrolled there. I was on the extended plan to say the least LOL. I loved the music classes not so much the academics at that point. I wished I could have finished up considering I only had like arranging 2 and history 2 to get my BM passed junior standing no problem although i was sweating being on the stand per se. but when I went to Florida I went back and changed my major to engineering after a few years and wound up getting my BSEE in 2008. So all was not lost since a lot of those classes counted as transfer electives and I gained alot of musical knowledge. Sorry about the long story.

Nice! I graduated May '94, so we very likely passed each other in the halls at some point. I studied with Bob T for several years also (plus a few after graduating). He’s the greatest. He helped me get a teaching gig there in '98, and I’ve been there ever since. Gary C is still there too.

Small world, huh?

It really is that’s for sure.
