Hand rest for DSX

I tried a hand rest years ago but now that I’m more knowledgeable about different motions and approaches, thanks to Troy, etc al, I’m trying it again.

I’m primarily a DSX player and I find it most natural to be pronated, that’s how I get the smoothest and most natural feel for alternate picking. Problem is when I get down to the low E string (and to a lesser extent the A string) there’s no lower string to provide support for my wrist\hand\thumb. So in effect my wrist has to pronate a ton more to reach the guitar body for support. Im messing around with a piece of foam placed on the body above the low E string. Same height as the strings, spaced from the low E the same as the other spacings’. I use a piece of rigid foam insulation from the hardware store, cut to the depth of the strings. It’s maybe 2"x1.5". It looks weird but I don’t give a shit. It’s blue now lol. When I get it dialed I’ll paint it black or something. Or maybe build a wooden one.

I also find that it helps maintain a more mellow wrist angle when I’m fingerpicking and makes my wrist much less tense.

Anyway, wondering if anyone has tried this or even thought of it? I’ll post a pic if anyone cares. At first I thought it was ‘cheating’ but that’s stupid, people use all sorts of aids and stuff to help technique. So whatever. It helps me when I’m doing that type of picking.

I think it’s awesome. One thing I learned is if you add different feelings or textures etc, basically anything that changes the information/feel to your brain, it helps you adapt, as your brain literally has to adapt to that new angle or texture. Perhaps you could try a switchable pad that has many different heights n textures. It will help your brain adapt, become more plastic and help your playing.

I agree it’s not cheating, we’re supposed to be making music lol

Can I see you playing it?

I’ll upload some video in a few days when I’m home with my Troy Grady Phone Clamp ©®™ :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes::grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:
