Long-time predominantly economy picker here. Primarily a Prog Metal guy but, like many, I’m into a lot of other music too… even EDM, trance, ambient, etc. Love smashing genres together with metal.
I gravitated to nearly strict economy picking decades ago because I had no idea that swiping was okay/normal when using alternate picking.
Thinking I was doing it wrong and was just never gonna get it, I focused instead on economy picking as my primary mode of transportation (with alt-picking only as necessary).
So, here I am now and focused on getting my alt-picking whipped into shape… as I like the slightly more aggressive sound of fast runs done with strict alternate picking. I know there’s a lot more to life than that, but it’s what I want to focus on first.
I’m in Portland… well… Hillsboro actually… but that’s basically a suburb of Portland.
Aside from guitar being my primary hobby (just a hobby now, but still a damn serious and expensive one), I build Gundam models a bit here and there, and on very rare occasions I’ll unearth my gaming PC and play a little Star Citizen (the most broken-yet-amazing space game in history).
