Hello! I'm Gabriel from Brazil

Hello! Greetings from Brazil!

Nowadays I’m living in São Paulo (one of the biggest cities of the modern world).
I used to be just a happy teenager with a guitar who used to pratice 5 hours a day. When I was starting to get good at playing I got a severe RSI and then had to take a break from guitar. Like 5 years break…

After recovering I was good to play but couldn’t play anything hahaha. So Cracking the Code helped me in getting in shape and even surpass my previous level.
Today I’m a proud “user” of DWPS and UWPS. The 2WPS is improving, somethings I can do easily with it, and others not so much. And of course the Crosspicking, took me a while, but today is natural. It’s sometimes harsh use and sometimes it solves everything. So I really like to change between the “modes” depending of what I need to do.

I’m really excited to talk about technique, softwares, gear or just small talk.
Congratz again to the CTC Team!

Hi and welcome :vulcan_salute:

Was RSI due to guitar playing? If so, do you think that your technique/posture/form could be one of the reasons for it?
Anyway, glad to hear that you are better now :+1:

I wonder how did you learn crosspicking? I haven’t worked much on it yet so I’m gathering information  Did you buy any of CtC packages or was YouTube material sufficient for you to learn it? Or did you yourself discovered some approach? Are there any exercises or tips that you could share? (I guess this could be a separate topic)

I guess it’s bad manner to flood a newcomer with questions… Well, you can answer some time later. How about that?

Hahaha no prob answering questions! To be honest I love to speak/write/listen/read in english. So no prob!

Yeah the RSI was due to guitar playing! My technique wasn’t the problem, but I wasn’t the kind of person that stretch before playing, I used to avoid warming up and never took a break between exercices. I was just pushing myself to the limit every day.
I mean it’s good to push yourself to your limit, but back in that time I should have stretched more, warmed up and especially took a few breaks just to give my muscles “time to breath”.

Yeah I got a few packages! When the Morse Pack was out I just bought it. (Huge Morse Fan here)
So after watching it I was like: I have no idea what I’m doing.

After thinking about it (and sending a few e-mails to troy) I focused in achieving the curvature in the picking. I did it like picking the notes of a power chord. Something like 5th fret in the Low E and 7th fret in the A. Then I started picking 5th fret in the Low E and 7th fret in the D. Never too slow, but nothing fast! Just in a speed that the sound is clean, you feel confortable (even though in the beginning was strange), it’s just natural. I started doind this “simple exercise” and then proceded to trying to do the licks in the Morse Pack. Took me a while but one day it clicked and I started Crosspicking. To improve it I started thinking about things that are good for crosspicking, got more licks from the Steve’s playing (he have a bunch of rich songs I just started listening to them and got the parts that got my attetion the most), Ben Eller have a good one too in his channel.

Basically start achieving the curvature, then proceed to the licks that Troy gives in the Morse Pack. Listen to Morse and try to get his licks, he have a lot of instruction videos, try to do the things he shows in this videos with the CrossPicking. And there’s a lot of Crosspickers around, Andy Wood, Albert Lee (I got his pack too) etc… Just absorb the ideas this guys gives us and try to “replicate” with Crosspicking.

Sorry for the long post! If I can help you with anything I’m gonna be happy to do so.
