The intro riff to Street Lethal is giving me major problems. To me the leads are much easier. I found this video of him playing it in a lesson and it looks like he is actually cross picking the riff. What do you guys think? Its the string skipping rhythm part about 3:10 in

I don’t see him doing two-way pick slanting here or swiping on the lick you mentioned which would make me wonder if two way pick slanting is even necessary to know.
Maybe he is using two way pick slanting on this lick but I only see him using downward pick slanting on this lick, although technically I suppose it would be called cross picking. The position is DWPS but the motion is cross picking.
Ya I’m not seeing any 2 way either but it kinda looks like cross picking. I can tell you it is much harder than he makes it look jumping over the A string for each chord hit
The gilbert lick sometimes sounds like hammer ons from nowhere,when played fast
