Help with ride the lightning run

Hey All,

Has anyone got any suggestions on how this should be picked? This lick is holding me back from nailing the whole solo :frowning:

For audio reference it starts at 3:13 on the video below

Thanks in advance for your time!!

I had a shot at it based on my very new understanding of TG systems. The highlight bit is where I have a bit of doubt, but the rest seems to flow a lot better than before

I’d probably use a downstroke-pulloff on the E and B strings here, just to keep the DPS orientation you probably have when doing those double-downstroke sweeps.

The upstroke works fine as well, but it puts you in a UPS orientation so you might not be comfortable switching between the two quickly.

Good point man, thank you

Why? By doing upstrokes in DWPS/USX-mode, the pickstrokes escape. Thus no need for a curved motion. I think the upstrokes are fine, but by being 8th-note picks, there shouldn’t be a problem either way.

Yes, that’s true. You could play these as escaped upstrokes too. I’d change the slant here (if using upstrokes) just because it feels awkward (IMO) to make string changes from under the string.
