Hey guys,
I’m happy to be part of the community.
I’m originally from Poland/Germany, but in the Bay area for so time now. I started playing 17 years ago, first along to Metallica, then mostly Iron Maiden and Evergrey, before I found my love for Prog Metal - which is (or was) to difficult for me to play along. I’m a big fan of Symphony X, so I’d be curious seeing an analysis of Michael Romeo’s technique, which looks pretty different from many others.
I found out about CTC over Ben Eller’s Youtube page and I’m really fascinated about the concept of pickslanting, in particular because it’s such a natural thing to do! I have hit a wall with my progress already years ago, because I thought (based on some tutorial videos, e.g. Petrucci’s) that I had to straighten up and crosspick everything. However, naturally my picking hand wanted to be down-slanted and do this “down, up, down/rotate…” when doing 3-note-per-string scales - and did not allowed it, because I was convinced it’s wrong! It’s so good to see that I actually wanted to do it right all along. Without CTC I wouldn’t have realized this and forced myself into some unnatural (for me) technique! Thanks for that! Besides that, being a scientist, I’m really into the good scientific approach of CTC
So, now I’m up for the new challenges and having fun playing and practicing again! Also, I’ll spread the word!
