Hi there, Ian from San Francisco

Hi all. I’m one of those 80s guys that’s still kicking around. Found Troy’s stuff when I started getting back into playing after noodling for way too long. When I first saw season 1 my reaction was “Hey, how does this guy know me?” since it was uncanny how many of my experiences were the same as Troy’s.

Here’s a fun story from back in the day. It’s early 1984 and I’m feeling pretty good about my playing. Jimmy Page solos were not a problem and I had good grasp of Van Halen & Randy Rhoads licks. I was over at a friend’s house who had just graduated from GIT. He says “check this out” and pops in Yngwie’s 4-track demo for Rising Force. I don’t know if the album had even been released yet. Jaw dropped, soul crushed. To me it was like someone spliced Uli Jon Roth and Michael Schenker together and jammed the fast forward button down. After that he put on Friday Night In San Francisco. Sometimes I think I’m still traumatized from that day!

Hey Ian, welcome to the forum! Thanks for following since way back. Great story, sounds like a not-uncommon experience for those who came of age in a certain guitar era
