Highest yield licks

I’m getting back into the guitar after having been a former wannabe shredder 20 years ago (made it pretty far technique and speed wise at the time, but hit a wall with the super crazy high level stuff, though never had the benefit of the picking deconstruction presented on this site). Would like to start reviving my technique and wonder what people think the highest yield licks would be for really honing my skills, runs that are worth playing hundreds or even thousands of times over for the sheer value and broader applicability said repetition would impart. I’d be interested in picking (no pun intended) an Eric Johnson, Malmsteen, Vai, Petrucci, and MAB style lick each and just start hammering away.

Thanks!

Hey @Brandon8o! There is not a unique answer to this question - it really depends on the player’s goals and on the motions they can currently make.

“Picking technique” is a generic term that grossly groups together a dozen (or more) different ways of playing. And each of these ways works for some things better than others. You probably won’t see Zakk Wylde covering Molly Tuttle tunes, for example

So the best way to go is to post a couple short videos in Technique Critique showing us where you are currently at. Filming instructions attached

Thanks! I’ll see what I can do. Hoping to get one of those magnet devices when they become available, but will see if I can cobble together something in the meantime.
