How would you play this lick?

176 bpm.
I go down, u, d, u.
4 first notes: Ring finger for first two notes, pinky, ring finger again.
Next 4: Middle finger first two, ring, middle.
Index, middle, index.

Im doing alternate picking, at 90 bpm somewhat consistently. But i guess this will take a long time to master at full speed?
I am experimenting with different slants and string hopping.

I might consider skip the ring and pinky because theyre not fast. I do use them all the time in normal practice/playing.

What would you recommend?

I played this with economy and only my index and middle fingers sliding the same shape down. D, U,U,D repeat. Def not at 176bpm tho.

Index and middle fingers throughout for the left hand - these are just major triad inversions moving chromatically, pretty easy. Alternate picking this cleanly is going to be extremely difficult at that speed, though.

Thank you guys. I will do those fingers instead, i figured it would be more convenient. Do or would you use finger rolling?

Alright, makes sense it will take a long time to play it the way i want it (up to speed) since the song seems hard.

What song is it from? And how’s your DBX?

At this slow speed there is a very high change you are stringhopping so it probably won’t ever work up to speed as the motion is incorrect, try starting at 140bpm 16th notes and try and hash it out at speed to get a feel for it.

The battle of the big bridge FFV  others play it differently, dunno where i got the tab from.

I dont know, i think I play with the pick perpendicular to the strings and an angle when I play Iron Maiden etc. And economy picking.
Possibly a little UWPS if its going fast.

When I practice tremolo 16 1/16notes on two strings i use heavy UWPS to reach 140-170bpm.
120 bpm is more like perpendicular.

Never got DWPS to work yet.

What all styles i try have in common, is that my upstrokes sucks and usually get stuck :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Give it a go with some economy rolls bro. Maybe I’m wrong but that was my initial instinct when I tried it yesterday. Same fingering you had

You can just lean into this and re-finger the arpeggios. Use upstroke sweeps and a hammer-on, and all of a sudden this becomes much easier. Left hand fingers are 4 3 1 3, repeating.

If we’re excluding the possibility of relocating the notes on the fretboard, I would left hand finger as
1 1 3 2
1 1 3 2
1 1 …and then end with one of these
212 or
213 or
312

I don’t have my guitar on me at the moment so not sure which ending would be best.

It’s important to not use the same finger for two notes in a row if they are on different strings AND different frets, imo, which is why I would not go 1121 1121

The right hand option that would be easiest for me personally would probably be
MUUI repeated basically, but there are a few different configurations that could work with hybrid picking. I’m a “downslanter” by habit so I’d also like MUDD

If we’re allowing relocation, a lot of things become possible. One option is to do @Riffdiculous ’s arrangements but with those B string notes on the high E, and go with the picking hand maybe middle finger then two pick strokes then a slur. On paper it looks harder with the stretch but I personally have an easier time stretching sometimes rather than jamming fingers 3 and 4 on the same fret or trying to roll either finger.

And you could also just Van Halen the whole thing easily - take my tab and shift the 1st note in each group of four to the G string, tapping the 13th, then 12th, then 11th, and then 12th frets. Lots of possibilities.

Considering that this is programmed video game music, I wouldn’t hold yourself hostage to any one technique or fingering, unless you’re purposely trying to turn this into an alternate picking etude.

Hey thank you all for the replies!!

Alot of good suggestions, yes I will admit
I should have named the topic
“How would you alt pick this lick”.

I took it for granted that this tab was meant to be played that way but i cant find someone play it that way on Youtube so i guess it doesnt matter. But as you can see, alt pick one note on each string is not my strong side. So wouldnt mind get up some speed there.

But i wont throw away anyones tips here. Since what I can see, others are using other techniques like you guys have suggested!

Unfortunately i cant find guitar pro tabs for it.
Im realistic though and would be happy to reach 75% of this. (Even though if slowed down it seems like he ignore some notes or im blind).
