I need a recommendation of bands

I am looking for something like Swedish metal
in vein of Necrophobic and Dissection

my latest discovery is Cloak - To Venomous Depths !!!

This is the list that I was able to make

Thulcandra - Under A Frozen Sun

Apostasy - Nuclear Messiah

Tribulation - The Horror

Spazmosity - Welcome Death

Lord Belial - Nocturnal Beast

Like a simple thing but an additional obstacle is…
I am looking for a bands from Greece.

Who is the equivalent of Necrophobic(or Dissection) in Greece metal scene?
Who combines a typical Swedish style with a typical Greek style?

PS. if it’s too hard you do not have to limit yourself to Greece

Interesting, why are you searching for bands from Greece, specifically? I really like Greek extreme metal but most of the bands I know are more black metal. Zemial, Agatus, Varathron, Thou Art Lord, Rotting Christ, Necromantia, Naer Mataron, the first Septic Flesh album, Archerontas, Macabre Omen… great stuff and much more musically interesting to me than most other black metal from Scandanavia et all. I think it’s the fact that all Greek bands draw influence from Manowar.

Why from Greece, because I am looking for something that is specific
instead of typical.

Greece and Sweden are like that…Brazil also (Mystifier,Sarcofago)
Norway naturally has its own style but…
I choose norwegian black metal bands carefully selecting them.
I do not like everything what is norwegian because it is norwegian.

I like a few bands, several albums, some songs
When it comes about Sweden then … I also choose a few
but I listen to their music with a larger portion of adrenaline
(similarly is with brazilian bands or with greek).

Zemial, Agatus, Varathron, Thou Art Lord, Rotting Christ, Necromantia, Naer Mataron, the first Septic Flesh album, Archerontas, Macabre Omen… great stuff

Yes, but I already know them, I need something new, I have to discover,
I have/need to get to know the unknown, more more and moooore.

I’m addicted to music,no matter how many cds or cassettes or vinyls I buy
I still need more,new :]

it is not necessarily about buying because I do not have enough money for it
but most of all it’s about discovering a new one.

Nigredo,Chthonic Rites,Wampyrinacht - Greece

Odem Arcarum - Outrageous Reverie Above The Erosion Of Barren Earth
(Satyricon + Emperor + Abigor) odd metal.

PS. I am disappointed by new Archerontas album…and Watain…and Satyricon.
I hope that the newest Necrophobic will be better than their last album…

Just curious, if you had to pick your 3 favorite songs in that genre, what would they be?

You probably already know about this if you know Dissection and Necrophobic.

Sacramentum - Far Away From the Sun

Melodic Black Metal or “Death/Black Metal” as I like to call it not to be confused with “Blackened Death Metal” Unfortunately there aren’t many good bands in this style.

The advanced search on metal-archives is your friend.

Necrophobic is about to release their first album with original singer Anders Strokirk since The Nocturnal Silence and it sounds promising.

Hopefully the album will open as epically as this

BTW Do you like black metal as a whole or just band in this style?

Well,I do not like any form of elitism I consider it as a disease of ego.
Black metal (as a whole )is … movement, which is the biggest proponent of Judeo-christianity
Judeo-christianity is the greatest promoter of “Satanism” (whole ‘satanic’ theology is in the Bible).

I am a native Slav, followers of the desert religions talk about such as me “pagan”
but I’m not worried about it because I am an opponent of cosmopolitanism
implemented by churches (judaism,judeo-christianity,islam) and zionism.
“Holy books” (yheir books) are not any holiness, just forgery of human minds and hands (except Vedas)
you only need to read a book of anthropologists and historians to discover deception.

Anyway, long time ago I became interested in black metal because of the means of expression.
After some time it turned out that 90% bands they’re exactly alike and then I stopped listening to everything
I started looking only original one.

After a few years I stopped focusing on stylistics / genres and I started to listen music as a whole.
Today I am in a place where I am sorry to say that everything has already been said in music
and you can not do any revolution in harmony or melody :frowning:

That’s why when I listen to music now, I’m going back to the old days from my high school
to albums which had premieres at that time or which I heard for the first time in those days.

I have my first meeting with really heavy music due to
Belphegor - Blutsabbath,Mayhem - De Mysteriis…,Kat - Metal and Hell
next was Impaled Nazarene - Tol Cormpt Norz Norz Norz,Latex Cult,Motörpenis

Today no one can arouse such emotions in me which I’ve experienced when I heard these albums for the first time…
with age/time, everything becomes ordinary :frowning:

Necrophobic is about to release their first album with original singer Anders Strokirk

I prefer to wait until I could hear the whole from beginning to end

Cool choices for Greece. “Return To Carthage” and “Devilskin” are two of my faves as well. I like Mystifier too–I got to see them live last year as well as Mortuary Drape. I imagine you probably know them as well?

Kat is awesome. We often put Metal And Hell on at parties and my friend loves to play them when he’s DJing at rock clubs here.

Did you hear the Zemial album Nykta? It’s a really cool blend of space rock and 1st-wave styled black metal. Nokturnal Mortum and Arkona have incorporated some more prog/psych/space elements into their more recent albums as well and I’ve been enjoying those. I don’t really listen to a lot of “pure” black metal really. Mainly the old Bathory albums. I’m from Vancouver and bands like Blasphemy, Revenge, Conqueror and Axis of Advance are all from around here and I can’t stand them.

I get what you’re saying about 90% of bands sounding similar. It’s the same in all styles of music really. I’ve been thinking about this a lot over the past couple of years. Most bands of young people are taking influence from bands that are already boiled-down into a “genre”. The founding fathers of heavy metal and such were influenced by so many other things, so I think it’s important to listen to a bunch of different stuff from all across the spectrum. And I think it’s important to hear the people who influenced your influences.

Of course I know them, my favorite is Into the Drape
Nykta also  …“pure” black metal,hm…what it is pure and who determines purity?

Tormentor - Anno Domini is pure?
Thou Shalt Suffer - Into the Woods of Belial ( great sound like a combination of steaming boiling swamps, vapour and moisture basements).
Master’s Hammer - Ritual
Root - Zjevení,Hell Symphony
Acheron - Those Who Have Risen,Lex Talionis / Satanic Victory

Master’s Hammer,Thou Shalt Suffer & Tormentor had the most influence on me when I was composing my first demo

Beautiful memories from the first visit in stuido.
First time I learned about phenomenon called scales

I love the classical elements in Anno Domini

These are some of my favorites
Burzum - Hvis Lyset Tar Oss (tied with Filosofem for my favorite BM album)
Ulver - Bergtatt
Agalloch - The Mantle
Panopticon - Kentucky
Wolves in the Throne Room - Diadem of 12 Stars
Alcest - Écailles de Lune
Deafheaven - Sunbather
Leviathan - The Tenth Sub Level of Suicide
Shining - V Halmstad
Summoning - Minas Morgul
Darkthrone - Panzerfaust
Enslaved - Frost
Windir - 1184
Emperor - In the Nightside Eclipse
Satyricon - Dark Medieval Times

I find the whole concept of “Trve Kvlt” black metal to be absolutely absurd.
