Is this Upward Pick Slanting or Two Way Pick Slanting?

Big fan of Ihsahn—I bought the Emperor tab book when I was 18.

I think that Ihsahn is probably doing DWPS for most of his rhythm guitars—especially the tremolo picking. Lots of those black metal riffs organize the notes into even-numbered groups and you’d typically start on a downstroke for accenting purposes. I think most metal rhythm guitar works this way, really. When I have some more time I’ll see what kind of footage there is for some of his faster lead work. He might do something different there.
