Hi!
So I’ve been trying to get down this Symphony x song for probably 10 years or something but for some reason I can never get it smooth. Just wondering if this an infamously difficult one that only Romeo can play smooth or if anyone here has successfully mastered it?
I’ve never heard before today, but reviewing tab, it’s at 152 bpm with sixteenth notes. Main riff is mostly one string. Descending part is 6s, ascending is 3nps. What part is not “smooth?”
The stringskipping part in the beginning and the switching of direction in the end. I have practised that for ages…
Ok, these parts?
What is your strategy? What’s your escape motion? What are you trying currently? What angles of problem solving have tried? What have you not tried yet?
Perhaps creating an etude to focus on problem and work through potential solutions. Tommo often cites one of CtC’s curriculum ethos: practice is motor learning problem solving not repetitions.
Others may have different opinions but some solutions I immediately think of are:
-For string skip-you can do hammer from nowhere, hybrid picking, legato.
-For ascending end, maybe economy picking or legato.
If you share a YouTube video of your efforts, it will be more illustrative than anything else. Be sure to check guide on how to so here on forum effectively.
I’m newer so I may not be able to accurately assess video, but you should make a technique critique for CtC team since you’re an MiM member if you have questions on motion or are stuck on any lessons.
String skip at the beginning of the part you linked can also be solved with DSX: start on an upstroke, swipe the first string change, and you’re set for an easy post-downstroke change to the high E (D) string.
I like it. I think OP has been working on DSX
