Is there a common reason people struggle with inside vs outside picking?

I ask because I’m working on alt picking and outside picking feels so bizarre, large and sloppy.
Meaning

I have tended to ascend starting with an upstroke and using eco which feels good but if I ditch all that and try alt outside its awkward.

Maybe its irrelevant and that’s the assumption I have been living with and have been forcing myself to make the motion happen in the Hope’s it will start to feel natural. I have to ascend slowly and really think about it because if I burst the speed I end up eco picking to avoid outside.

I can descend starting with a down and alt much better

I figure if there is a common reason it could help me overcome this.

I could live with this “problem” and still play most lines
But I hate not understanding

I have not got to watch that video yet. But I no inside and outside picking from stacks of books I have. There’s simple exercises to improve both those techniques. You can do 5—5 on G and B string or inside up down or down up then outside to improve. You can also make your own to. I economy pick alot to without thinking to. The more you work on it the more it feel less weird. But I’m thinking also what works works. So I try to stay with what works unless it’s gonna drastically improve picking which I believe these could nothing wrong with practicing it all. But I still love all my physical copies.

Yeah I love actually paper books too.

I agree with the nothing wrong with practicing it all notion also.

I use to be afraid it would mess me up but now I think it can only help. The more I analyze the more I see that I naturally set everything up for inside picking.
My guess is I always will include inside and eco when I’m just playing but I see no reason I shouldn’t be able to do both ultimately.

However, outside truly feels crazy for me still

If you do the spider exercise. 1-2-3-4 down then 5432 up then continue down fretboard with regular alternate. That will help not feel crazy no more. I learned economy like that and ever seen then. I economy and alternate pick. I tend to have a mixture but what I read is what’s less motion is the best to go faster. Do the spider and it will definitely help. It will also help your pinky and other fingers. I got to where I can fly down it. It tremendously helped me. Also i seen you like paper books. I already told you about the digital free way I get books but I buy all my guitar books from Thriftbooks.com. It’s super cheap and the copies are just like brand new but used and your helping people. $30 books are $5 the newest ones out and most that come with CDs are still brand new however I receive some that where not and one with no cd. But overall it’s the best deal. That’s how I got all the newest books there used books for cheap. I got about 40 books from there. Then they also give free books from buying and always look up promo codes to save more. It’s amazing place for guitarist. I don’t mind sharing these awesome finds. I could not believe these two places a guitar players dream. But everyone is different but for me saving helps alot keeps me busy longer for little or no money between those to sites. That’s my only to secrets.

Wow, I will check that used books link out.
My wife was just complaining about my books so its definitely time to buy more. Lol

As for the picking drills tonight I started playing the paul Gilbert lick using both inside and out as troy showed by adding a note to turn the pick cycle around.

Will try the spider thing in the am.

I’m having a comprehension failure here, could you describe this in a different way?
