Today is International Jazz Day so I wanted to create a thread to discuss great jazz guitarists and jazz guitar pieces. Post some jazz guitar songs you like.
Several years back I happened to be in a used record shop and I came across a near mint copy of Land of the Midnight Sun. I was not into jazz at the time but I had remembered hearing the name Al Di Meola probably in an interview where someone like Yngwie etc was asked about their influences. Al looked so damn cool on the back with his Les Paul and the wax was near mint so I blind bought it. I came home and this started playing and I was hooked about halfway through the first track.
After the former I was looking for more jazz and I discovered that Al played “fusion” so I looked up more fusion records and eventually found this.
This piece is imo the best John McLaughlin studio performance with Miles Davis and you get Herbie Hancock on the farfisa too. McLaughlin plays a really cool wah rhythm part the trumpet solo.
