Is anyone using the Gambale "Chop Builder"?

I see it gets mentioned here occasionally. I just downloaded it. It seems pretty ideal for me. Even the beginning exercises here are teaching me things and it’s cool to be able to play along and watch his pick.

The whole vibe is pretty dated but it feels very practical.

Hey!

Chop builder was actually the main thing I was working on for technique before I came to this site.

Someone I look up to recommended it to me, I still think it’s brilliant but a lot of the lines are double escape and since I’m mostly working on single escape at the moment I’ve decided to put it aside for the minute.

Good luck with the “workout!” : )

Hi I am currently using the second round. I have been trying to develop a wrist motion picking motion, working on a nice movement at 170-180bpm, then slowing it down. I have found that working on round 2 is of some help, or at least I have made progress through it over a period of time, which makes me think that I am progressing somewhat. I take it it is at about 120 bpm? I don’t think round 1 is worth it: too slow to be sure you are using an efficient picking motion. Once round two moves into the two note per string pentatonic type shapes, I find I am falling apart with it.

I also use the 3nps scale bit; I find it tricky (again I am taking it to be around 120 bpm) but probably useful to work on.

I have found great benefit with Guitar Playalongs on YouTube for my left hand, this has really made a big difference for me. I have found more benefit to these, than practising left hand kind of material on my own, for whatever reason; I maybe just wasn’t as consistent or doing it for long enough before??

Plus, I like practising along to these kind of interactive videos like that. It’s how I would have done it all along, had YouTube been available when I was 16 or 17!!

Round 1 seems pretty handy to me as the triplets have me changing my pick direction regularly and in ways for me that are awkward. I suppose you could put it in Transcribe! and speed it up to the tempo you feel appropriate but none of it is easy.
