I was trying to think of the most common RDT motion (inspired by Troy’s reflections on ergonomic mice), and concluded that it could be violent back-and-forth scribing with a pencil. Does that seem right? If so, childhood RDT with crayons might be a precursor for picking?

Yeah. One of Troy’s earliest “table tap” tests involved a scribbling or scratch off. Can’t recall if that was to demonstrate Al Di Meola or EVH wrist picking but they are both in the RDT camp.
