Is This USX Wrist Motion?

What do you guys think of this? I just started messing around with this motion in the last day or so. Feels awkward but is getting more comfortable and I have short bursts of pretty fast tremolo. I’d greatly appreciate any feedback

I don’t think it’s USX - more than likely DSX, or potentially trapped. If you try something with much more frequent string changing, like a 2 note per string pentatonic scale or 4 note per string chromatic scale, it should become clearer which escape this motion is.

You should be able to tell if it is USX or DSX.

  • With USX the pick goes away from the guitar body on an upstroke, and closer to the body on a downstroke. On an upstroke you will start trapped, hit a string, and end up free, clearing the other thicker strings. On a downstroke, you will eventually hit your target string, and if you continue, you’ll hit the next thinner string (for a rest stroke).

Is this what’s happening, or is it the opposite (DSX)? You tell me! :grinning:

Thanks for the replies guys. It’s definitely USX, as string changes ending on an upstroke are easy. I’m now trying to figure out how to make this wrist motion faster and more consistent (a la early 2000s petrucci)

It looks to me to be DBX, double escape.

You seem to be switching between all three, which would basicly be DBX.

Hey, you’re a member, so Troy or Tommo will analyze this and tell you!
